We are starting a new feature here at Dirty Pillows. Something to keep our fans actively engaged and to keep us on our toes and a little less engulfed in the malaise of everyday life. One of the great things about running a diy record label is the camaraderie you find amongst other like-minded labels and artists. Individuals who share the same passion and goal, which is to release and expose people to music that they might otherwise never hear. Therefore, will be doing a monthly (or something) label spotlight series that speaks to the labels that we hold near and dear to our hearts. With any luck you'll discover some good gems from the independent label universe, or at the very least you'll get to enjoy our delicate prose.
That brings us to our first label in this series: Geographic North. I might be showing a bit of bias with this one because I go back with a couple of the guys who run the label. We were DJs at WRAS-Atlanta (RIP) together. Regardless of our mutual affiliation this label absolutely kills it with every release that they do, both in packaging aesthetic and musical quality. When they announced their first series of 7 inches I was completely blown away. This was back in the WRAS days and I remember being so in awe that someone I knew could release a batch of singles from such an amazing roster of artists. GN's first batch included living legends such as Tarentel and Landing as well as big-name, quality producing acts like A Sunny Day in Glasgow and Soft Circle.
Since then my mind has continued to be blown by the output that these guys have been curating. Not to mention that you can find Bobby's fine word usage over at Decoder, and check out Farzad and Farbod's band Lyonnais. They truly rule.
